Wherever you are in your recovery, we can help you. We are committed to providing addiction treatment services for anyone ready to break their cycle of addiction. We work with you on a one-to-one basis to personalize a treatment plan created to fit your needs. We provide a full range of addiction services with person-centered care and treatment plans for drug, alcohol, and substance use disorder
Our team is comprised of licensed alcohol and substance use counselors, mental health providers, and specially trained medical staff who work together to ensure a gentle transition between services and providers as they move through each stage of substance abuse treatment.
Addiction is a chronic disease, and through the use of Medicated Assisted Recovery (MAR), we tailor medication, counseling, and other support services according to best practices and individual needs.
Medical and clinical staff evaluate for, and prescribes medications (when appropriate) to assist with cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and recovery from addiction. The MAR program offers Buprenorphine, oral Naltrexone, Campral, Vivitrol, Gabapentin, Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors and a variety of medications tailored to your unique symptoms.
Assessment for MAR begins at evaluation and continues throughout the course of treatment. Assessment information is gathered by the care team, including the clinical staff, medical staff, patient's family, and any other provider agencies involved (primary care, mental health, legal, previous providers). Benefits of this approach include but are not limited to, a decrease in incidence of overdose, illicit drug use, criminal activity and risk of contracting or spreading communicable diseases, an increase in engagement and retention in treatment, ability to obtain and maintain employment and stable housing. Risks are not limited to, but may include, precipitated withdrawal, medication interactions and side effects, and the need for medical supervision of controlled substances.
Access to MAR is available at all St. Lawrence Health inpatient and outpatient sites and locations (Gouverneur, Massena, and Potsdam).
Sometimes the first step is the hardest one to take. Our inpatient detoxification services at Gouverneur Hospital and Massena Hospital are here to help you safely take the important first step toward recovery.

Substance use disorder can be a major life hardship–getting help shouldn’t be. Culturally competent care has not always been available to those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and people of all sexual and gender identities who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.
We have created a program filled with inclusive recovery services that revolve around your needs, your goals, and who you are.
